To make the splash I need, I have to sell the team’s most complicated story: hometown catcher Jake McKinney and his estranged, all-star father, Roddy. Only problem? Just because they’re teammates now doesn’t mean they’re talking.
I’ve dealt with difficult athletes before, but Jake is a special brand of prickly. He’s bullheaded, defensive, and completely hell-bent on ignoring me. But I have my own hyper-critical father to answer to, and failure isn’t an option. If Jake thinks he can freeze me out, he’s underestimated how stubborn I can be.
But when his walls finally crack, I don’t just see a player destined for greatness, I see a man determined to right his father’s wrongs. I see the shared scars we both try to hide. And when he kisses me, the carefully planned future I’ve spent years building suddenly starts to blur.
Falling for a player is a massive line to cross. Choosing my career means reopening wounds Jake has worked so hard to heal. But walking away means letting go of my lifelong dream and proving my father right.
Do I stay the course and protect my future, or risk it all for a love I never saw coming?

She knows getting Jake McKinney to sit down with his father for an interview is going to be tough. The man is as stubborn as they come, but there is also a lot of animosity lingering between them, and that's making it almost impossible for them to want to talk to one another, let alone sit and talk to her. She has her work cut out for her, but she has also never met challenge that she didn't come out on the winning side of...but she's also never met a man like Jake either!
Whoa There Cowboy is a story of healing, facing your demons, finding love, chasing dreams, and finding to the courage to let someone in. Jake McKinney has lived in his father's shadow for years and it's a place he's never wanted to be. The man is difficult to deal with, has treated his mother poorly, and has never really been a dad that he could be proud of. Jake has done well avoiding him for the last few years, but now that they are about to be on the same baseball team, things are bound to become tough. Unfortunately all of those past hurts about to come to a head too, and Jake isn't so sure he's ready to deal with them. He has a job to do and that is where his focus lies... well, that is until she wanders onto his field!
This book is one of those books that carries an element of surprise, I knew it was going to be an emotional one, but nothing could have prepared me for what I found waiting between the pages here. Amongst all the heartfelt moments, there were bits of suspense added in too, and those moments really kept me flying through the pages to see who was behind the nefarious activities.
I loved the progression between Jake and Campbell, it had a very natural feel to it. They both carried scars from their father's antics and in a way that is what united them, seeing those same hurts on one another, really resonated and brought them together. It was really uplifting to watch them heal one another, encourage each other, and also embrace one another too when the world around them became unbearable. This was such a beautifully written love story and a wonderful addition to the series... loved every minute of it! Highly recommend it!!
