Peyton Myers puts on a good front, she tells everyone around her that she is doing fine, but underneath lies a girl barely surviving. Her emotions are all over the place, she's never felt more alone, and she is drowning herself in guilt over her mother's death. She knew her mother's addictions would eventually catch up to her... but nothing could have prepare her for the moment they actually did. Losing her mother meant that she was now without any blood related family, an orphan left to survive the world at the age of seventeen. Her friends' family has taken her in, and have done their best to make her feel as though she belongs... but there is still a part of her that feels alone.
Her demons are constantly at her back, as she tries to return to normalcy, but she does her best to stay afloat and keep up with appearances. But sometimes the demons win, and one night they lead her to take chances she shouldn't have, and it almost costs her everything. Probably would have if it weren't for a an unlikely angel to step in and save her. Xander Chase saved her life that night, and now he is all she can think about. He makes her feel safe, keeps her demons at bay, and she wants nothing more than to be near him, but he keeps her at a distance. He says he is no good for her, too old for her, and too damaged to love... but she knows better!
Tragic Lies is a heartbreaking forbidden romance that will do a number on your heart and emotions. It's pages hold the story of two wounded souls with stories that are bound to break your heart. When Xander steps in to save a struggling Peyton it sets off a series of events that put them on each other's paths. It connects them in a way they don't understand, but want to hold on to. They are drawn to one another, but everyone around them tells them it is inappropriate for them to act on what they feel. There is too much of an age difference between them for them to have anything in common. But what no one sees is the pain that they recognize in each other's eyes, that pain bonds them, makes them feel understood and feel less alone. Question is will they follow their hearts, and find their true happiness? Or will they let their friends and family talk them out of it?
This beautifully penned love story hit all the right notes for me, it gave the heartstrings a nice little tug, and the words captured my attention from the get-go! Highly recommend!
